Proquest and Google Create Partnership

September 19, 2008

Press releases from ProQuest and Google recently announced a partnership to make older newspaper available in a digital format.  According to a report from Outsell Insights:

ProQuest, along with the other major partner, Heritage Microfilm, will each assist Google’s efforts in several ways. First, it will provide industry introductions as Google looks to sign up participating newspapers in this initiative. Second, it will supply Google with content from its own collection where they have the rights to do so. Third, it will supply Google with the microfiche for titles in its archive if Google secures authorization from the rights holder. In return, Google will provide these participants with the digitized version of their archives. It is also envisaged that this initiative may generate revenue either via third party ads or via traffic to pay per view sites.
